Dealing with my strawberry plants
Posted 25 Feb 10 8:10 PM
I am interested to know what I should do with my strawberry plants during the winter. It is the first year myplants have been in the garden as they were all given to me. Some of them were about a year old and others were new and they have all produced good fruit.
So, during the winter, can I just leave them planted where they are and ignore them? I have read on a couple of websites about dividing the plants but can anyone advise as to when or if I will need to do this. And the suckers that have been sent out should I cut them off now if I don't want them?
Any help is much appreciated.

The suckers are called runners, where there are leaves on it, it will grow roots - so peg it down to the soil with a bit of wire and leave for 2 weeks, when rooted you can then cut the runner from the mainplant and transplant your new baby to a new site if you wish. put some blood & bone , and peastraw mulch round your plants and leave alone, they will flower again in spring for another crop. Strawberries last about 3 years. Enjoy.
