I am living in Vietnam where Sugar Cane juice is a common drink and sugar cane grows well.
Can you tell me if Sugar cane grows in NZ? I have a home in Nelson and wondered if the climate was warm enough there for sugar cane.

I should think so, we used to grow it in Wanganui (across the ditch but not as warm as Nelson) when I was a kid. I see it in the local markets in Auckland and popping up over fences in Mt Albert and Avondale so probably worth giving it a go - if you can find some viable stalks...

I~d love to buy sugar cane at Bunnings' price. I found a sugar cane seller in the NOrth Island selling a piece of sugar cane for $20. I'm yet to hear about someone growing sugar cane and avocado in Christchurch.

It will grow North of Hamilton. It needs the heat.

I gave some sugarcane to someone in Nelson a couple of years ago, and they said it was growing well. Maybe it still is.

I'm currently growing sugar cane in CHCH in my garage. Not sure if it will survive the current cold weather...

I'm afraid, you'll have to buy b/c my plant died. I've been looking for good deals in CHCH, but the only place is country gardens for $20
