MAQUI BERRY PLANTS
Posted 31 Oct 11 9:38 PM
Hi, just wondering if anyone knows where I can obtain Maqui berry plants from, happy to pay cash or swap. I live in Waimate south. I'm loving this site, having just come across it. What a great idea lovely to hear from fellow gardeners. Regards, Adrienne

Hi Adrienne, are you looking for this, also known as the Chilean Wineberry, or just Wineberry? I think you may be hard pressed to find the Maqui, as some Chilean imports have earnt a bad reputation!

Ok, found some for sale, $60 each from Wairere Nurseries, just north of where i live. They do shipping too. Im not sure you will find them cheaper elsewhere, and Wairere are pretty top of the range, great quality stuff. I think they are your best bet :) http://www.wairere.co.nz/products.mvc?mi=2&pc=sub&gid=63Look for Aristotelia chilensis

Dude, wtf, seriously, do you think the customs would be stupid enough to let seeds, let alone whole plants, through customs?
You will need to get the person on the receiving end to file for importation of nursery stock. That can be expensive.
If you know someone in Canada or S Korea who want one, tell them to look in the US/South America (Canada), or the entire Eurasian continent (S Korea) for the plant, it would be far cheaper.

Bruce, is the p+h included in the 25? Or is it seperate?

Stupid? You are not very well informed. I can order any plants from England to Canada.

But that isnt NZ to Canada is it. We do have certain diseases in NZ that are not found elsewhere in the world, and that other countries would rather not 'adopt'. I have found that customs are much stronger when it comes to exported NZ plant material (excluding fruit/produce-there are measures in place for that), and vice-versa. It is incredibly difficult to export or import any plant material to/from NZ, including seeds.

YOu might want to ring Oderings CHCh where I bought my plant from ($50). They might post it to you. I have been trying to propagate it but had no luck so far.
Also try trademe.
