Garden description: We enjoy growing a combination of both edible and native plants on our 1/4 acre section in Christchurch. The back yard was just grass when we bought the place 6 years ago, but since then we have established about 200 different native and introduced species on the property! A small glass house and four raised beds. The beds are surrounded by gravelled paths. The glass house is used for chillies and tomatoes, whilst the beds grow a range of interesting veges with seed mostly sourced from the Southern Seed Exchange. (http://www.southernseed.org.nz./) We have also created landscaped gardens with a wide variety of native plants which provide colour and interest year-round, as well as privacy. The native gardens were planted approx. 4-5 years ago, and require very little maintenance.
