We've created seven beds in the lawn, by just turning the turfs over. So far, weeds aren't too much of a problem, and though the grass is poking through the gaps in the turf it's pretty easy to keep on top of it.

Garden description: We are the Partridge Family! And we consist of Jez, Loo and Baby Isla. We love being outdoors enjoying the New Zealand sunshine!

We've not lived here in Featherston long, so this is our first growing season! We are lucky enough to have a front and back garden, so have decided to dedicate the back to veggies (and eventually chooks) and the front to... leisure! Though, the front patch is productive too, with pots of toms, some fruits and a couple of tubs of carrots.

The back garden is the larger of the two, and is a nice regular shape. It was mainly laid to lawn until Jez got at it with his spade! He's created 7 beds so far, not raised yet - couldn't quite afford the timber - but designed so you can reach from one side to the middle, eliminating the need to trample across the soil. The soil is surprisingly good in parts, and very easy to dig.

This year we are concentrating on getting as much in the ground as possible! Next year, we hope to get a bit more 'technical', and try out some moon-gardening, no-dig gardening and strictly organic growing.

We are really excited to be part of this MyGarden 'movement! Bring on the surpluses!
